What are they all about? Part 6.

fatherwilliam1Father William is a story within the story and as such departs a little in style from the rest of the illustrations. I hit upon the idea of using reference to different t.v clergy for each of the four panels. Panel 1 is the living room of Father Ted, complete with Father Jack’s rancid armchair.

fatherwilliam2Panel 2 is the Reverend Geraldine Granger’s living room from The Vicar of Dibley. If you look in the background, you can see books that relate to the rest of of the Alice story.

fatherwilliam3Number 3 in the series is a bit more recent, the trendy vicar comedy Rev. My only alteration to the original set is the Le Crueset saucepan and the Alessi kettle in the far background.

fatherwilliam4Panel 4 is a diversion from the theme in that the background features a reference of a much darker nature. The church you can see is All Saints Church Fulham, the setting for the gruesome death of Father Brennan by being skewered by a falling lightning rod in the horror film The Omen. An odder reference is the giant fish viewable in the body of water in the background. It is from an old European fantasy film, “The Singing Ringing Tree”. Which, more than The Omen for me, was the stuff of my childhood nightmares.
